Materials for Instrument Making

We are making instruments on TUESDAY, OCT 26th!

KIDS NEED TO BRING IN MATERIALS TO CONSTRUCT THEIR INSTRUMENT ON TUESDAY.

A note came home with your child today with information about this project. Please have your child bring all their building materials to school on Tuesday. They are not to construct any part of their instrument at home, all building will take place at school.

They can make a string instrument (needs to be plucked), a percussion instrument (needs to be hit) or a wind instrument (needs to be blown into).

CRAZY MATH FUN!!!

The kids had to find out the mystery 3 digit number I taped to their back by only asking their classmates yes or no questions to discover each number.

What a great task because the kids had to apply their math knowledge/language using a variety of problem solving approaches ! The kids had a riot racing around the room to discover their number!

Interactive math helps establish a deeper understanding of concepts!

Miss. Pickett's Special People

Congratulations to these wonderful kiddos!

Masyn is a true ray of sunshine in the classsroom each day. She has a heart of gold and is always ready to lend a helping hand to a classmate. I am so proud to see the level of respect and consideration that she shows her classmates. Masyn has a great sense of creativity and she loves to challenge herself in math by always trying to come up with different ways to solve problems. She is a great artist with a true eye for small details. I love how hard Masyn works to always make sure that she is being the best learner she can be. You are such a wonderful girl Masyn. Keep up all the great work!

Jaxson is one amazing kid. He has the best manners and is always showing others what a great helper he can be. Jaxson loves to challenge Miss. Pickett with which hockey team is the BEST. However, he has a great sense determination and drive to be the best he can be. Jaxson likes to take on difficult math problem solving questions with a smile. He has a desire to a strong, self motivated learner. I am so proud of all that you do each day Jaxson. You are such a great kid with a wonderful personality. Keep up all the great work!!

FLU SEASON!

Flu and cold season is upon us. If you would be willing to send in a small container of lysol wipes that would be greatly appreciated. I have the kids wipe down the desks and counters with the disinfecting wipes to help fight the spread of germs in the class.

NEW SPELLING APPROACH COMING NEXT WEEK!!!

MISS. PICKETT IS SUPER EXCITED TO BE IMPLEMENTING A NEW SPELLING PROGRAM NEXT WEEK USING TIC TAC TOE CHOICE BOARDS!!!!

This spelling program will be much more engaging to kids as they will be responsible for selecting 3 activities on a tic tac toe choice board to practice their spelling words.

I will be sending a letter home shortly to explain how the program will work to parents. Your child will NO LONGER be bringing home spelling worksheets.

They will have a SPELLING FOLDER that will come home with them each week with their TIC TAC TOE CHOICE BOARD inside.

THIS IS GOING TO BE A NEW BUT FUN LEARNING EXPERIENCE AND CHALLENGE!

THIS WEEK....

1) HOT LUNCH ON WEDNESDAY!

2) NO SCHOOL ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY THIS WEEK DUE TO STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RETREAT.

3) Movie party on Wednesday afternoon! The kids have worked hard to fill their popcorn jar in the "beat the teacher challenge"...and I am so proud of them for filling it! Way to go kiddos!

REMINDERS....

OCT 14/15 SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR. The kids need to bring in money to make their purchases. We will be going on Thurs and I will have the kids make their wish lists. Then we will go back on Friday to make purchases. Children who bring money on Thursday may also make purchases then. Please do not send loose money with your child (have it in a bag or wallet).

GREEN SOCIAL REVIEW SHEET COMING HOME TODAY. Social mapping quiz will be on FRIDAY, OCT 15. It will be very similar to the review sheet so please make sure that your child studies the review sheet for a couple minutes each night.

No challenge questions this week as Miss. Pickett is away tomorrow and Friday.
