Hello Families! “Blogging” is a school wide project that is being taken on by the teachers at MMH school. We will cut down on the amount of paper that travels home with this cool, creative and interactive technology tool! There are links to great learning websites on the subject pages for your child. If at any time you have any suggestions of what you’d like to see on the blog, please let me know and we’ll see if we can make that happen! Here is my email address: corrina.barker@lethsd.ab.ca

PAT Information
SPECIAL “PRACTICE” WEBSITE
If you would like your child to have extra practice for the reading comprehension and math problem solving PAT please use the website below. It contains old PAT questions and it is great site for your child to practice on. This site is to be used as a review of concepts learned in class. We still have the fractions and measurement units to complete in math.
NOTE: Practicing for 15 – 30 minutes on this website a few times a week is PLENTY of time and will help your child build their confidence with the types of questions that they will see in June for the reading and math provincial achievement tests.
NOTE: Please do not have your child practice on this website for long periods of time as I am trying to keep these PATs as stress free and low key as possible for the kids. THE KIDS ARE A SMART BUNCH AND THEY ARE GOING TO DO AWESOME WITH THEIR KNOWLEDGE! Practice time on this website should not be a stressful experience for your child. It should just be used as a quick review of concepts they have learned.

NEED PARENT HELPERS FOR PYSANKY
IMPORTANT ---Help Needed for Pysanky Egg Decorating!!!
Dear Parents:
As part of our Social Studies program, one of the countries that we are studying is the Ukraine. One part of the program is to look at traditions and celebrations. We will be doing traditional Ukrainian Pysanky (egg decorating) and are in need of parental assistance. The kids will be working with traditional pysanky tools and using candles to melt bee’s wax. If you are willing to help please fill in the form below and check off the times you are available. Due to the nature of the activity we cannot accommodate younger siblings.
Thank you for all your help and support. Parent assistance is required for this activity, as candles will be used to melt wax and kids will need help to complete the delicate egg dying process. If you can assist on any of the days below please complete the form and return to school as soon as possible.
If you are able to assist on more than one day that would be great.
Please check the date that you can assist on below.
Tuesday, April 24 --- 8:30 – 10:00 am ____
Monday, April 30 --- 10:15 – 11:45 am ____
Tuesday, May 1 --- 8:30 - 10:00 am ____
We will add in a 4th session if we need to!
Thank you taking the time to help make learning in our classroom a fun experience. This is an amazing opportunity for your child to experience the true aspects of Ukrainian culture.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Barker

HARD BOILED EGGS NEEDED THURSDAY...
PYSANKY EASTER EGGS
Dear Parents:
On Thursday, April 5th we will be doing some “Ukrainian Pysanky Egg” decorating with hard boiled eggs for Easter. The kids will be using wax crayons and dye to create their pysanky Easter eggs. This activity is in association with our studies of Ukraine that will be starting after the Easter break.
At the end of April and beginning of May, the kids will be creating pysanky Eggs using the traditional Ukrainian tools and raw eggs so this pysanky activity with hard boiled eggs and wax crayons is a lead up activity to give the children some practice with handling and drawing on eggs before we tackle the traditional pysanky decorating format.
IMPORTANT:
On Thursday, April 5th your child needs to bring TWO HARD BOILED EGGS to school in a container with a lid that is packed with paper towel.
