Skating on Friday Next Week

 

Dear Parents                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

The Grade 3 team has decided to take the kids skating for all their hard work. We will be going to Nicholas Sheran Ice Arena on Friday, October 3, 2014. We have the ice from 9:30 A.M. – 11:00A.M. Nicholas Sheran specifies that ALL children must be wearing a hockey helmet and that bicycle helmets will NOT be accepted. They DO have extra helmets should your child need to borrow one.  

 

Also we will portion off a small hockey area again for hockey play but we are requiring the following in order for the children to participate safely; hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, elbow pads, neck guard, and stick. We will not be able to allow parents to participate in the game play in order for this to be a safe activity. All these conditions are according to board policy.

 

In order for every child to be transported to the ice arena, we will need to have parent volunteers. Please know that you are encouraged to skate and if you have younger children that would like to participate, we fully support and encourage that as well. Siblings are also required to wear hockey helmets and parents are encouraged to wear a hockey helmet on the ice surface.

 

We will be leaving the school at 9:15am in order to be at the rink and ready to get on the ice by 9:30. If you are volunteering to drive, please be at the school by 9:15. We will be returning to the school around 11:15.

Beginning next week your child will be involved in the Alberta Learning Assessments (SLAs)

 

 

There are four components:

1) Literacy Performance Task

2) Math Performance Task

3) Literacy Online Questions (40 questions)

4) Math Online Questions (40 questions)

 

 

We need to have all the components of the SLAs completed by Oct 10th so we will have a very busy next few weeks.

 

 

Next week we will be doing the performance based parts the assessment and the following week will be the online assessments.

I have a great group of kiddos in this class and I am so excited for all the fun learning activities that will happen this year.  They are a hard working bunch!

Reading At Home

A R.A.H (reading at home) letter is coming home with your child today.  They need to read 20 minutes to mark off a block on their chart.

 

For example: if they read for 30 minutes one night they will mark off one block and BANK the extra 10 minutes for their next reading session.  Then they only need to read another 10 minutes to get the next 20 minute reading block.

Please be aware that the weather is not supposed to good tomorrow!  Kids will be going outside for recess so please make sure that they have the proper raingear to keep dry for nice pictures!
